Areas of application
BORNIT® Hot Sealing TL is used to seal joints in concrete and asphalt roads, concrete components in building construction and civil engineering, at transitions of asphalt overlays of mastic asphalt or asphalt concrete, resp., and for repairs in asphalt surfaces (e.g. crack repairs).

Type and properties
BORNIT® Hot Sealing TL is based on polymer-modified bitumen, mineral fillers and organic additives. It is a fusible, hot workable sealing compound, characterised by elasticity and extensibility.
BORNIT® Hot Sealing TL has a good adhesive capacity at the fusion face as well as a high resistance to heat and cold. The sealing compound is not affected by water and de-icing salt, is water-impermeable and ageing-resistant.
From the low density results decreased material consumption in proportion to the filling volume.
Quality according to TL/TP Fug-StB 15 and DIN EN 14 188-1 (joint sealants N2 - normal).

Surface
The joints must be dry and clean. Any oil and grease residues as well as loose particles must be removed. The joints must cleaned with compressed air

Processing
Prior to pouring, the fusion faces must be primed with BORNIT® Hot Compound Primer, in order to achieve the required flank adhesion. It is recommended to prime approx. 1 cm of the road surface on both sides of the joint as well, in order to guarantee adhesion up to the upper edge. Prior to starting pouring, the primer must have dried off (finger test). Upon pouring of the product into re-cut asphalt joints or cracks, pre-treatment with a hot-air lance may be sufficient. First, peel off the packaging from the sealing compound. Then slowly heat BORNIT® Hot Sealing TL to the processing temperature in a sealant heater equipped with stirrer, thermostat-controlled burner and thermometer. In that, the maximum fusion temperature of 180 °C must not be exceeded and the sealing compound must be kept moving, in order to avoid local overheating and settling of the fillers. Only melt the anticipated amount needed for the day, since repeated heating could have a negative effect on the material properties. Perform pouring with suitable equipment (e.g. slim pouring cans with an elongated spout, etc.). Stop application when it starts to rain! Since a volume reduction occurs with all sealing compounds after cooling, application should be undertaken in two layers. In that, the second layer is to be applied immediately after cooling of the first one, onto the still shining, clean surface. In that, the processing temperature must not be undercut, in order to guarantee homogenous fusion. In case of concrete traffic areas, BORNIT® Hot Sealing TL must be poured such that a trough-shaped depression of min. 1 mm to max. 6 mm (with chamfered joint edges) is formed beneath the road surface. Protrusions or excessive pouring, resp., must be avoided.
