areas of application
BORNIT® Roof Primer 220 is a special primer for subsequent coating with BORNIT® Roof Paint 230. BORNIT® Roof Primer 220 must only be used on absorbent substrates (e.g. clay, concrete, fibre-cement plates). Non-absorbent substrates, as e.g. metal and bituminous roof membranes are not suited for the product.
type and properties
BORNIT® Roof Primer 220 is a solvent-free, low-odour primer with a solidifying effect and high penetration depth into the substrate.
advantages
- fast drying time
- easy to process
surface
The substrate must be clean, dry, firm, stable and free from separating substances. Roof surfaces with organic components, like fungi, algae or moss infestation must be thoroughly cleaned by high-pressure cleaning with water. Defective coatings must be removed entirely.
processing
Generously apply BORNIT® Roof Primer 220 one time with a penetrating primer brush or with airless spraying equipment (nozzle size 0.011-0.013 inches, 50° spraying angle, 150 bar). Clean work equipment with water immediately after use. Processing is possible at temperatures from min. +5 °C. Do not apply with an impending risk of frost, rain or more than 80 % relative humidity.
At 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity, the product is surface-dry after 3-5 hours and can be recoated. At lower temperatures and/or higher humidity, drying times are prolonged.
Thoroughly clean roof surfaces with organic components, like fungi, algae or moss infestation, and other contaminations by wet-blasting them with water. Depending on the substrate, the amount applied should be chosen such that the primer can be completely absorbed and does not form a glossy film after drying. Weakly absorbent substrates, e.g. clay or fibre-cement plates, must only be primed with a thin layer. In case of strongly absorbent substrates, for which only absorbency is to be reduced, the roof primer can be diluted up to 1:1 with water. BORNIT® Roof Primer 220 is not suited for non-absorbent substrates.
Note: Protect components, which are not to be treated, from splashes – e.g. by covering them – since dried up roof primer can hardly be removed anymore. Subsequently, following thorough drying of the primer, BORNIT® Roof Paint 230 can be applied.
