Areas of application
Subsequent interior basement waterproofing, shaft waterproofing as well as for any further waterproofing against non-pressing and pressing water from the negative and positive side.

Type and properties
BORNIT® Slurry (SM1) is a fast-setting mineral sealing slurry with high resistance to aggressive groundwater and high-water pressure.

Advantages
  • Leaky areas and individual points are quickly and easily sealed with the method, even if the water is flowing. The success is immediately visible. The seal is made from the negative side, i.e. against the water pressure.
  • The process combines the following effects:
  • 1. Sealing of places against pressing, flowing water.
  • 2. Surface sealing against pressing, flowing water.
  • 3. Silicification of the waterproofing layer and the leaky building material, so that it is compacted and becomes part of the waterproofing.
  • 4. The waterproofing is permanent as it becomes an integral part of the structure.
  • 5. Simple, safe processing and inexpensive.

Surface
A stable, firm and clean substrate is the prerequisite for permanent secure waterproofing. Paints and also plasters, which contain lime (also hydraulic lime), screeds, etc., must be removed down to the solid construction material (masonry/concrete). If possible, scrape out joints in the masonry down to approx. 2 mm.
Pre-moisten dry surfaces well multiple times prior to starting application. Holes and open joints should be filled with BORNIT® Sealing Mortar.

Prior to applying the BORNIT® Basement Coating System to aerated concrete, lightweight and heavy concrete blocks (e.g. Poroton), a stable plaster layer of BORNIT® Sealing Mortar must be applied.
Unsuitable substrates:
- Limy plasters
- Paint coats and coatings
- Gypsum-based construction materials

Processing
For leak waterproofing:
Firmly rub in BORNIT® Water Stop SB2 until the water is stopped.

For surface waterproofing:
Waterproofing of the leaks alone often is not sufficient, since the water finds other paths and then emerges again in other locations. In order to achieve dry rooms, the surfaces are to be treated as follows:

1. Mix as much BORNIT® Slurry SB1 with water into a plastic, thick and spreadable mass as can be processed within 5 minutes. Spread the slurry onto the substrate with a wide brush or a firm smaller brush (consumption per m² approx. 2.5 kg).
2. Then immediately rub BORNIT® Water Stop SB2 firmly by hand into the still fresh, wet slurry, until the surface is dry. Wear smooth rubber gloves.
(Consumption per m² approx. 1.5 kg)
3. Then, without waiting, brush-on BORNIT® Solidificator SB3 with a clean, wide brush (consumption per m² approx. 0.5 kg).
4. Immediately after that and after about 30 minutes, repeat step 1 (consumption respectively 0.5 to 1.0 kg per m²). In order to avoid tensions, the layers should be applied with a thickness of no more than 4 mm.

Follow-up treatment
In the wall area, apply a rough bonding cast after 24 hours, at the earliest. This is to be prepared as follows:

Dilute BORNIT® Stick Emulsion with water at a ratio of 1:2 and mix with Renovation Plaster until a sprayable consistency is obtained. The rough cast should be applied with a coverage of approx. 50 %. After a further at least 24 hours, apply the water-repellent and thermally insulating Renovation Plaster. The floor is coated with a bonding bridge of BORNIT® Stick Emulsion (diluted with water 1:2), admixed with a cement/sand mixture (1:4). Thereafter, a cement coat must be applied.

Elastic waterproofing of joints and cracks
For waterproofing of cracks, joints, pipe penetrations and other mobile parts in the course of interior waterproofing, proceed as follows.

1. Prior to applying the surface waterproofing, connections or joints, resp., must be chiselled into the masonry or concrete, resp., in the area of the cracks: width approx. 4 cm or more in case of expected strong movement or high-water pressure.
2. Within the course of surface waterproofing, the BORNIT® Basement Coating System also passes through the chiselled out joints. Therewith, a dry surface is achieved.
3. At least 24 hours after application of BORNIT® Basement Coating, the lateral flanks of the joint (only these) are coated with BORNIT® Concrete Primer.
4. After about 3 hours, the joints must be completely filled with BORNIT® Cold Joint Sealant. Possible later movement of the substrate is elastically compensated by the BORNIT® Cold Joint Sealant. No water can penetrate anymore.
