Areas of application
Due to its special properties, BORNIT® Basic Primer in conjunction with BORNIT® Slurry SF forms an effective barrier against rear-acting moisture on the outer sealing during the construction phase.

BORNIT® Basic Primer is the special primer in the BORNIT® Combination Sealing System:

1. BORNIT® Basic Primer as a primer
2. BORNIT® Slurry SF
3. optional BORNIT® Triangular Tape / 2-component PMBC or BORNIT® sealing mortar for undercut formation
4. BORNIT® Basic Primer
5. BORNIT® Polymer-Modified Bitumen Thick Coating – PMBC (BORNIT® 1C, BORNIT® 2C, BORNIT® 2C Flex, BORNIT® Profi 1C Express)

BORNIT® Basic Primer forms a water-repellent, yet diffusion-open, deep protection layer for the subsequent waterproofing products.
It is also suitable for the restoration of masonry and the subsequent sealing of basements against salts and efflorescence that can destroy mortar. In combination with BORNIT® Slurry SF, a resistant mineral coating is created. In addition, BORNIT® Basic Primer is used for the surface hardening of concrete, masonry (joints), plaster (lime and cement plasters) and sandstone – DO NOT use for gypsum substrates.

Type and properties
BORNIT® Basic Primer is a combination product based on polymers and silicates that penetrates deep into the mineral substrate due to its thin-fluid consistency, reducing its pore volume and thus effectively reducing capillary moisture absorption. Its material-strengthening properties increase the mechanical resistance of mineral building materials. Due to this combination of substrate strengthening and simultaneous reduction of capillary moisture absorption, BORNIT® Basic Primer is particularly suitable for use on mineral substrates that tend to be critical.

Advantages
  • free from solvents
  • environmentally friendly, can be used indoors
  • water-repellent, diffusion-open, reduces capillary water absorption
  • strengthens the substrate while increasing its mechanical and chemical resistance
  • economical and cost-cutting, as equipment, material and labour costs are reduced

Surface
Mineral (except gypsum), firm, clean, dry and oil-free, weakly to highly absorbent. Mechanically remove loose components, loose plaster and salt efflorescence beforehand.

Processing
BORNIT® Basic Primer is paintable and sprayable. The ambient and substrate temperature must not fall below 0°C during the curing phase. The salts that migrate to the surface during the curing phase must be removed from the masonry by brushing.
To strengthen and increase the chemical and mechanical resistance of mineral building materials, BORNIT® Basic Primer is applied undiluted to the substrate. BORNIT® Basic Primer can be reworked after approx. 16 hrs.

Consumption
as a deep primer approx. 0.1 – 0.13 kg/m² (double quantity possible depending on the absorbency of the substrate), a second treatment may be necessary with highly absorbent substrates
