Areas of application
BORNIT® Asphalt Fix is mainly used for repair work in road maintenance. Since the material can be processed very easily and without great equipment effort, the skilled handyman, too, can use it to perform repairs himself.
BORNIT® Asphalt Fix is used to close potholes and breakups of any kind as well as to compensate for level differences in asphalt road surfaces. BORNIT® Asphalt Fix can be used on roads of any load-bearing categories in layer thicknesses of up to max. 5 cm.
Due to its positional stability, BORNIT® Asphalt Fix cannot be used in traffic areas exposed to high point and/or linear loads (e.g. pedestrian zones, shopping centres, parking levels, mastic asphalt surfaces, storage areas with forklift truck traffic, etc.). For these surfaces, we recommend BORNIT® Reactive Asphalt.

Type and properties
BORNIT® Asphalt Fix is an easy-to-process, quick-setting repair material for repairs in asphalt and concrete surfaces.
It consists of a mixture of high-quality chippings with a grain size of 0/5 with bitumen.
BORNIT® Asphalt Fix is environmentally friendly and recyclable. Following application and compaction, the repaired spots are immediately load-resistant and have excellent stability. Later on, asphalt can be applied on top of BORNIT® Asphalt Fix any time and the product has the same durability as repairs with hot mix.

Advantages
  • cold workable and manufactured ready for use
  • no mixing times as with multi-component products
  • following application and compaction, immediately load-resistant and stable
  • quick-setting and resilient
  • hot asphalt mix can be applied on top
  • not sensitive to frost and applicable at temperatures down to -5°C
  • can be applied by one person without great equipment effort
  • can also be applied on wet substrate
  • long shelf life (12 months)

Surface
The substrate must be free from loose particles, standing water, ice, snow, dirt or any separating substances.
Upon application on concrete, in case of thin layers or for improvement of adhesion, resp., it is recommended to prime the substrate and the edges of the existing material with BORNIT® Bitumen Primer Fix. With the special spraying can with the user-friendly 360° tilting valve, small surfaces can be primed without any problem without having to use further tools. The product penetrates well into the substrate, has a dust-binding effect and dries faster than conventional bitumen primers. After complete drying of the primer, application of BORNIT® Asphalt Fix can be started.

Processing
Apply BORNIT® Asphalt Fix to the substrate and distribute it with a rake or trowel in a slightly elevated manner. Ensuing spray the BORNIT®-Asphalt-Fix layer with water (approx. 1 liter / bucket). Subsequently, the mix must be compacted well. For small areas, forceful ramming with a hand rammer is sufficient, for larger areas, the use of a vibratory plate or a roller is recommended. During the cold season, the material should be stored in a moderately warm room (>15°C) for better processing. At temperatures below -15°C, application is not possible anymore.
Following application and compaction, BORNIT® Asphalt Fix is immediately load-resistant. Depending on the temperature and the layer thickness applied, thorough hardening takes 3 to several days.
Follow-up compaction of BORNIT® Asphalt Fix must be provided by normal road traffic.
In order to avoid stickiness, spread fine crushed sand onto the surface.
