areas of application
BORNIT® Asphalt Pore Sealer is used for smoothing and as a pore sealer of open-pore and aged asphalt surfaces on roads, hard shoulders, squares, pavements and cycling lanes as well as for waterproofing and sealing of bituminous wear layers. The durability of the coating can be extended by accumulating binding agent at the surface. With the included filling agents, the grip of the surface is increased by the treatment with BORNIT® Asphalt Pore Sealer.

type and properties
BORNIT® Asphalt Pore Sealer is a ready-to-use bituminous slurry based on a polymer-modified bitumen emulsion with mineral fillers. BORNIT® Asphalt Pore Sealer does not contain any solvents and is environmentally friendly.
The product has been tested according to TL-Sbit (pore filling compounds).

  • immediately ready for use without mixing
  • low equipment, material and labor requirements
  • environmentally friendly as it is solvent-free

The substrate must be swept clean prior to the application of BORNIT® Asphalt Pore Sealer. The contact surfaces must be clean, dust-free as well as free from any components acting as separating agents (e.g. dust, oil, grease, fuel, paint residues, etc.). Remove loose particles. Breakouts or potholes, resp., must be repaired with BORNIT® Repair Mortar or BORNIT® Reactive Asphalt.
The substrate must be moistened, it may be slightly damp however not wet. Old coatings and absorbent substrates must be primed with BORNIT® Asphalt Adhesive or with BORNIT® Grundbit.

As a consequence of considerable differences in density of the individual components of the asphalt pore sealer, depositing during storage and transport cannot be avoided. Due to that, the material must be thoroughly stirred up prior to application (mechanically, using stirring equipment). Thereafter, the ready-to-use BORNIT® Asphalt Pore Sealer can be easily applied.

The coating with the homogenously stirred up material is applied using a rubber blade. For pore sealing, the material is applied as a thin layer, so that the asphalt structure remains visible. For surface sealing, do not apply too thickly (see note “Max. dry layer thickness”). The drying time depends on ambient temperature, air humidity and material layer thickness applied.

After thorough drying, a slip-proof, wear-resistant surface with closed pores results. Additional sprinkling of the fresh coating with high-quality chippings is possible.

Processing must be undertaken at temperatures between min. +5 °C and max. +35 °C (substrate and ambient temperature). Refrain from application of the material in case of impending or continuous rain. Follow-up treatment and re-application of the coating is possible any time.

pore sealing: approx. 0.8 kg/m²
surface sealing: approx. 1.0 kg/m², depending on the substrate
max. dry layer thickness: approx. 0.5 mm (avoid higher layer thicknesses!)
