areas of application
BORNIT® Roof Paint 230 is used as a coloured dispersion paint for renovation and repairs of roofs with a pitch of at least 3° (degrees). The product can be used on clay and concrete bricks and fibre-cement plates. BORNIT® Roof Paint 230 protects the roof membrane from penetrating water and serves visual improvement of the roof area.
Not suitable for corrugated bituminous sheets and substrates containing asbestos.

type and properties
BORNIT® Roof Paint 230 is a solvent-free, coloured roof paint based on copolymeric pure acrylate. The product is water-dilutable and easy to apply.
BORNIT® Roof Paint 230 is UV-resistant, elastic, water-vapour permeable, colour-fast, and has a high resistance to adverse weather conditions.

advantages
  • elastic and water-vapour permeable
  • free from solvents, water-dilutable, environmentally friendly
  • economical and cost-cutting, due to low equipment and material costs and effort
  • high resistance to ageing, weather-resistant

surface
Have defective roofing materials and defective junctions and edges replaced or repaired, resp., by specialist companies. Remove growths of algae and moss, dirt and loose particles using a high-pressure cleaner with a dirt blaster.
Note: edges, too, must be cleaned properly, in that, always clean in the flow direction, so that no water penetrates underneath the roof covering. In case of extensively algae-infested surfaces, use of a respective algae remover is recommended. After cleaning, the substrate must be firm, clean, stable and free from separating substances. Subsequently prime porous, sanding and absorbent substrates with BORNIT® Roof Primer 220.

processing
Apply with brush, paint roller or airless spraying equipment.

Airless application:
Spraying angle: 50°, nozzle: 0.021”, pressure 110-130 bar

Concrete roof tiles:
Coat the prepared substrate with BORNIT® Roof Paint 230 two times wet on wet or in two separate layers.

Clay tiles:
Clean the substrate as described before. Thinly prime smooth substrates with BORNIT® Roof Primer 220, in that, avoid glossy spots. Thereafter coat two times with BORNIT® Roof Paint 230.

Fibre-cement plates:
See above

Notes:
• The roofing must be sufficiently rear-ventilated.
• BORNIT® Roof Paint 230 must only be applied on engobed clay tiles and on smooth
fibre-cement plates after respective priming and a positive test coat.
• Newer roof tiles sometimes have refined surfaces (e.g. dirt-repellent or self-cleaning
surfaces). In principle, always apply on test surfaces in order to assess adhesion.
• Do not apply in case of impending rain, fog, frost or with an air humidity above 80 % as
well as at temperatures below +5 °C.
• In the summer months, heated-up surfaces might have to be pre-wetted.

Drying time:
At +20 °C and 65 % rel. air humidity:
- Recoating possible after approx. 2 hrs
- Rain-fast after approx. 4 hrs
- Upon deviation from standard climate, these times are respectively prolonged/shortened.

consumption
approx. 0.30-0.35 kg/m² per layer applied (to be determined with test application, if applicable)
overall application min. 0.6 kg/m²
