Areas of application
BORNIT® Dachbit is used as a topcoat in maintaining bituminous and mineral roofing membranes. Not suitable for corrugated bituminous sheets. The roofs must have a pitch of at least 3%, in order to exclude permanently standing water. In order to improve adhesion, and on absorbent substrates, use BORNIT® Grundbit as a primer.
Type and properties
BORNIT®-Dachbit is a water-based, polymer-modified protective coating based on a bitumen emulsion. It is free from organic solvents (solvent-free) and is used as an alternative to solvent-based bitumen coatings. The product is applied cold and can be brushed, rolled or sprayed using an airless spray system.
BORNIT®-Dachbit meets the requirements (Annex 313 / Items 10.1 and 10.2 – Bitumen-based building products) of the state quality label for sustainable buildings (Quality Label for Sustainable Buildings (QNG)). The label is issued by the German Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Construction.

Advantages
- good adhesion, high opacity as well as resistance to adverse weather conditions
- free from organic solvents
- suitable for polymer-bitumen sheeting
- cold workable
Surface
The substrate must be firm, clean and free from separating substances (oils, greases, etc.). It may be slightly moist, but not wet. In case of highly weathered and chalking or absorbent, mineral substrates, prime with BORNIT® Grundbit.
Processing
BORNIT® Dachbit is manufactured ready for processing. Topcoats must be applied undiluted. In that, at least two coats are recommended. The second coat is applied following sufficient initial drying of the first one. Application is undertaken with a coating broom, small or large brush, roller or airless spraying equipment. The processing equipment must be pre-wetted! Clean the respective processing equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened material can be removed with BORNIT® Bitumen Cleaner.
BORNIT® Dachbit must only be applied in dry weather and under no circumstances in case of frost or rain or impending rain, resp.
