Areas of application
BORNIT® Edge Flex is sprayed-on cold to protect the asphalt body from water penetrating from the side. In case of a unilateral transverse gradient, the more elevated edge must be sealed on one side, or in twisted areas on both sides, resp., by applying a bitumen compound in order to prevent damaging to the compact asphalt composite.
BORNIT® Edge Flex adheres excellently, also in high layer thicknesses, to horizontal and vertical surfaces. Fine shrinkage cracks, open pores, etc., are filled and covered with the viscous material in a flexible and crack-bridging manner. The material is mechanically applied with the BORNIT® Flexomat 3.1 with the “Edge Module” attached over the entire flank surface in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Thus, one worker can securely seal approx. 600 m of asphalt flank in one hour.

Type and properties
BORNIT® Edge Flex is a flexible, polymer-modified bitumen emulsion with special fillers for secure waterproofing of the elevated edge of asphalt-paved traffic areas.
In the set state, the material is weather- and UV-resistant. The product does not contain any organic solvents (solvent-free) and after thorough drying it provides resilient and elastic edge sealing against penetrating surface water. Due to its thixotropic (stable) consistency, BORNIT® Edge Flex can be applied in one go without any problem in the layer thickness demanded according to ZTV Asphalt-StB 24.
In the set state, the material is weather- and UV-resistant. Surface
The substrate must be frost-free, firm, clean and free from separating substances (oil, grease, etc.). It may be matt moist, but not wet.
Processing
In principle, edge sealing should be undertaken at temperatures above +5 °C and in continuously dry weather.
Machine processing:
Using the processing equipment BORNIT® Flexomat 3.1 + Edge Module, larger distances can be treated very quickly and effectively for edge sealing with BORNIT® Edge Flex. With the application arm and the spraying nozzle, the material is thus liquefied at the nozzle with pressure and injected deeper into the pores at the edge. Simultaneously, the material is evenly and stably applied to the surface in the required layer thickness.
Note: Complete drying of the material may take longer than a day and depends on the weather or the material thickness, resp. However, within a short period (approx. 15 minutes), a thin rain protection layer is formed on the surface of BORNIT® Edge Flex, so that when rain starts to fall, this does not have a negative impact on the sealing. In cold and moist weather, the thorough drying time is prolonged.

Disposal note
Only recycle completely empty containers. Material residues can be disposed of according to AVV-ASN: 170302 (bituminous mixtures, except for those falling under 170301).
