Areas of application
BORNIT® Slurry EL serves waterproofing against ground moisture and non-pressing water. BORNIT® Slurry EL is used, e.g., for terrace and balcony waterproofing prior to tiling, for protecting concrete surfaces, for waterproofing water tanks as well as for waterproofing swimming pools, wet and moist rooms under tiles.
BORNIT® Slurry EL is not suitable for waterproofing against water loads acting on the rear.
Type and properties
BORNIT® Slurry EL is a cementitious, two-component, crack-bridging surface coating with good adhesion on concrete, masonry and plaster, which with its flexible properties is particularly suitable for substrates at risk of crack formation. After drying, the product is waterproof, crack-bridging, abrasion-resistant as well as resistant to water aggressive to concrete.
Advantages
- seam- and jointless sealing
- waterproofing against ground moisture, non-pressing and pressing water
- also suitable for damp substrates
- crack-bridging
- for sealing the positive and negative side against pressing water
- sulphate resistant
- waterproofing remains open to diffusion
- solvent-free, hence environmentally friendly
- easy to process
Surface
The mineral substrate must be clean, firm, free from separating substances, oils, and fats, and must be open-pored. Suitable methods for this are milling, sandblasting, shot blasting, or high-pressure water jetting with at least 350 bar. Voids and depressions must be eliminated. Masonry must be fully grouted. Absorbent substrates must be primed with BORNIT® Basic Primer. Non-absorbent substrates are pre-wetted slightly damp. Standing water must be removed. Shrinkage holes must be filled.
Processing
Upon processing BORNIT® Slurry EL, in principle, the current “Guideline for planning and execution of waterproofing of building components in contact with the ground with flexible sealing slurries” must be observed. BORNIT® Slurry EL is not suitable for waterproofing against water loads acting on the rear. Processing must not be undertaken at ambient and substrate temperatures below +5 °C or above +30 °C. The two components are delivered in containers holding the respectively required quantities. The mixing ratio of liquid component: powder component is approx. 1 part by weight: 3 parts by weight, i.e., 25 kg of the powder component have to be mixed with 8 kg of the liquid component. Add the powder component to the liquid (not vice versa) and mix them into a homogeneous and lump-free compound using a slow-running agitator with stirring paddle. Do not stir too much air into the compound. To achieve a consistency tailored to the applicator, up to 0.5 liters of clean tap water can be added to the mixture. The pot or processing time, resp., is approx. 1 hour. For surface waterproofing, apply the ready mixed material to the substrate in at least two coats using a wide brush, trowel or smoothing trowel. In case of substrates at risk of crack formation, for wall/floor connections and in corner areas, embed BORNIT® Glass Fabric 165 centrally into the first layer. In order to achieve particularly smooth surfaces, the surface must be smoothed with a slightly moistened rubber slider or the like. Depending on the weather, the thorough hardening period is approx. 1 to 3 days. During this time, the fresh coating must be protected from rain, other water loads and frost. In case of permanent solar irradiation, discolouration is possible.
