BORNIT^® Coldmix Asphalt (bucket) is used for maintenance and repair of asphalt roads. Main areas of application are fast closure of potholes and frost buckling damages, filling of voids upon repair, as well as levelling of the surface around road installations (shafts, etc.). Due to its storage stability, BORNIT^® Coldmix Asphalt (bucket) must not be used in traffic areas exposed to high point and/or line loads (e.g., pedestrian zones, shopping centres, parking levels, mastic asphalt surfaces, storage yards with forklift truck traffic, etc.). For these surfaces we recommend BORNIT^® Reactive Asphalt.

BORNIT^® Coldmix Asphalt (bucket) is a solvent-free and cold-workable special material mixture consisting of double-crushed chippings, bitumen emulsion and special adhesives. BORNIT^® Coldmix Asphalt (bucket) is packaged in a plastic container and may be retrieved therefrom in portions as needed. The product can also be stored outdoors for longer periods, without loss of quality.

The substrate must be free from loose particles, standing water, ice, snow, dirt or any separating substances. Upon application on concrete, in case of thin layers or for improvement of adhesion, resp., we recommend priming of the substrate and the edges of the old surface with BORNIT^® Bitumen Primer Spray. With the special spray can with the user-friendly 360° tilting valve, small surfaces can be easily primed without the use of further tools. The product penetrates well into the substrate, has a dust-binding effect and dries faster than conventional bitumen primers. After complete drying of the primer, application of BORNIT^® Coldmix Asphalt (bucket) can be started.

Due to its special properties, BORNIT^® Coldmix Asphalt (bucket) can be used almost all year round, regardless of the weather conditions. Rain, moisture and slight frost are not an obstacle to performing urgent repairs. For better processing, the material should be stored at room temperature (>10 °C) in the cold season. Depending on the layer thickness, BORNIT^® Coldmix Asphalt (bucket) is suitable for firm, stable and frost-proof substrates (e.g., asphalt, concrete) for light to medium traffic. For improving adhesion, concrete substrates must be primed with BORNIT^® Bitumen Primer Spray. BORNIT^® Coldmix Asphalt (bucket) of grain size 0/5 mm is suitable for layer thicknesses up to max. 5 cm! The thorough hardening process to reach the final strength can take several weeks, depending on layer thickness and environmental conditions. In case of smaller applications to be undertaken by hand, in particular upon repairing potholes and other road surface damages, the spots to be repaired must be thoroughly swept off prior to applying the material mixture. As a consequence of the excellent adhesion of the material mixture, vertical cutting out of potholes is not required. The separating effect of the emulsion water has the effect that the work equipment does not get sticky upon processing – contrary to other types of material mixtures – but remains clean and thus enables a smooth working process. Observe sufficient compaction upon processing. Compaction is undertaken using a vibrating plate or vibrating roller. Alternatively, intensive compacting using a hand stamper may be sufficient. BORNIT^® Coldmix Asphalt (bucket) is immediately traversable after application. In order to reduce stickiness, finely crushed sand should be spread onto the surface. Normal traffic effects follow-up compaction.

Only recycle completely empty containers. Material residues can be disposed of according to AVV-ASN: 170302 (bitumen mixtures with the exception of those that come under 170301).
