Areas of application
BORNIT® Asphalt Primer can be used on absorbent and non-absorbent substrates. Excellent adhesion properties are achieved, e.g., on freshly cut asphalt and various metals (VA steel, brass, aluminium). BORNIT® Asphalt Primer is particularly suitable as bonding primer, when the sealing is additionally exposed to thermal stresses up to +100 °C. The asphalt primer is not suitable for asphalt surfaces, which are additionally exposed to chemical stresses, e.g., by oils, solvents or fuels, like petrol, diesel or the like.

Type and properties
BORNIT® Asphalt Primer is a two-component adhesion promoter for polysulphide sealants on problematic substrates or for special conditions of application, resp.

  • easy to mix
  • less equipment and labor required for processing

The substrate must be dry and free from dust, grease and any loose particles.

The components A + B are thoroughly mixed and the asphalt primer evenly applied with a brush. After a flash-off time of 2 to 6 hours (component temperature >+25 °C approx. 2 hours, <+10 °C approx. 6 hours), the sealant can be applied. The asphalt primer should have dried off as far as possible. It must be observed that no moisture film has formed on the primer surface due to undercutting of the dew point.
