Areas of application
BORNIT® Hot Sealing PS serves sealing and closing of joints for all kinds of pavements. BORNIT® Hot Sealing PS can also be used for sealing of only slightly loaded joints in structures made of concrete, masonry and reinforced concrete.

Type and properties
BORNIT® Hot Sealing PS is a bitumen-based sealing compound with mineral fillers. The pavement joint compound is a meltable and hot workable sealing compound. It corresponds to the quality requirements according to ZTV Fug-StB 15.

Advantages
  • good absorption of movement
  • good adhesion to the joint flanks
  • insensitive to water and de-icing salts

Surface
The joints must be dry and clean. Residues of oil and grease as well as loose particles must be removed. Cleanly blow out the joints with compressed air.

Processing
Prior to application, the joint flanks must be primed with BORNIT® Hot Compound Primer. The primer must have dried off prior to application of the compound (finger test). First, remove the packaging from the sealing compound. Then slowly heat BORNIT® Hot Sealing PS to the processing temperature in a melting pot equipped with a stirring unit, a thermostat-controlled burner and a thermometer. In that, comply with the maximum melting temperature of +180 °C in any case and keep the compound moving using the stirring unit, in order to avoid local overheating and deposition. Only melt the quantity prospectively required for the day, since the material properties could change with repeated melting. Perform application using suitable equipment (e.g., narrow pouring jugs with elongated spout, etc.). Should it start raining, stop application immediately!
Since there is a reduction in volume after cooling down with all sealing compounds, application should be undertaken in two working steps. In that, the second layer should be applied immediately after cooling down of the first one, onto the still shiny and clean surface. In that, the processing temperature must not be undercut, in order to guarantee homogeneous amalgamation.
BORNIT® Hot Sealing PS must be applied such that a trough-shaped indentation of at least 1 mm to 6 mm, at most (with chamfered joint edges) is formed below the pavement surface. Protrusions or excess material, resp., are to be avoided.
