Areas of application
BORNIT® Slurry EL 1C is used for waterproofing against ground moisture and non-pressing water in the plinth area. BORNIT® Slurry EL 1C can also be used, for example, for waterproofing terraces and balconies before tiling, for the protection of concrete surfaces, for waterproofing water tanks and for waterproofing swimming pools, wet and damp rooms under tiles.

Type and properties
BORNIT® Slurry EL 1C is a cementitious, 1-component, crack-bridging surface coating with good adhesion to concrete, masonry and plaster, which is particularly suitable for substrates at risk of cracking due to its flexible properties. After drying, the product is waterproof, crack-bridging, abrasion-resistant and resistant to water attacking concrete.

Advantages
  • seam- and jointless sealing
  • waterproofing against ground moisture, non-pressing water
  • crack-bridging
  • solvent-free, hence environmentally friendly
  • easy to process

Surface
The substrate must be clean, firm and free from separating substances, oils and greases. Voids and depressions must be eliminated. Masonry must be fully grouted. Absorbent substrates must be primed with BORNIT® Basic Primer. Non-absorbent substrates are pre-wetted slightly damp. Standing water must be removed. Shrinkage holes must be filled.

Processing
Upon processing BORNIT® Slurry EL 1C, in principle, the current “Guideline for planning and execution of waterproofing of building components in contact with the ground with flexible sealing slurries” must be observed.
Do not apply at ambient and substrate temperatures below +8°C or above +25°C and a maximum relative humidity of 75%. The dry mortar is thoroughly mixed with tap water (5.3-5.5 litres/bag) using a stirring tool at a slow speed (<500 rpm). After a maturing time of approx. 4-5 minutes, the mortar must be stirred again.
The pot life or working time is approx. 1 hour. For surface sealing, apply the ready-mixed material to the substrate in at least two coats using a brush, trowel or smoothing trowel. The second coat should be applied at least 12 hours after the first coat has been applied. For substrates at risk of cracking, for wall/floor connections and in corner areas, work BORNIT® Glass Fabric 165 into the centre of the first layer. The curing time is approx. 1 to 3 days, depending on the weather conditions. During this time, the fresh coating must be protected from rain, other water exposure and frost. Permanent exposure to sunlight may cause discolouration. The sealing layer must not be exposed to mechanical stress and must be protected in accordance with DIN 18533-3.
