Areas of application
BORNIT® Mineral Flex 2C serves waterproofing of buildings from inside and outside. Suitable for sealing of the wall cross-section and basement sealing in accordance with DIN 18533. With its UV stability, particularly usable as base sealing. It can be used on old bituminous substrates and mineral sealings. Mixed with quartz sand also usable to even out surfaces and as fillet mortar.

Type and properties
The bitumen-free, flexible, polymer-modified thick coating (FPD) is quickly rain-fast, resilient to pressing water within 24 hours, visco-plastic, crack-bridging, impervious to radon and UV-resistant. It can also be used for the adhesion of insulation boards.
BORNIT® Mineral Flex 2C can also be used on slightly moist substrates, and can be painted and plastered over. Mixed with quartz sand, it can be used as fillet mortar.

Surface
The substrate should be dry or slightly moist, clean, grease- and oil-free, and free from loose particles. Soft (e.g. porous concrete), highly salt-containing and absorbent substrates must be primed with BORNIT® Basic Primer (consumption approx. 0.1 - 0.2 kg/m²).
Inner corners must be rounded, edges must be chamfered. Defective concrete und plaster surfaces, cracks and holes with a depth of more than 5 mm must be repaired with BORNIT® Sealing Mortar beforehand.
Voids up to 5 mm are evened out with a filled or unfilled scratch-coat in order to avoid the formation of blisters, among other things. Old bituminous substrates are primed with an unfilled scratch-coat.
Filled mixtures are produced from 2 parts of BORNIT® Mineral Flex 2C and 1 part of quartz sand (0.06 - 0.36 mm grain size).

Processing
Add the powder in portions to the liquid component provided and blend intensively using a slow-running stirrer with an anchor stirrer, until a homogeneous mass results – mixing time at least 3 minutes.
BORNIT® Mineral Flex 2C is spread with a toothed or smoothing spatula in two stages or sprayed with a suitable peristaltic pump, max. hose length 10 m. In warm, windy weather, 0.5 litres of tap water can be added per 25 kg container.
Upon application of two individual layers, the second layer must only be applied once the first layer can no longer be damaged by the application.
The sealing must be free of voids, uniform and with a thickness according to the requirements. The specified minimum layer thickness must not be undercut and/or exceeded by 100 % anywhere. The surface sealing in the wall area must extend onto the end face of the floor slab or foundation by at least 10 cm. The external sealing must be applied right up to the existing horizontal sealing in all areas. In areas at risk for cracks, on old bituminous coats of paint or coatings, at the transition of fillets and upon sealing in accordance with DIN 18533, BORNIT® Glass Fabric 165 must be centrally embedded.
BORNIT® Mineral Flex 2C can be applied on old bitumen primers or old bituminous external sealing following previous application of a scratch-coat.
Impact of rain and frost, exposure to water as well as solar irradiation must be excluded until complete and thorough drying of the coating. Prior to filling the construction pit, the sealing must be protected against damaging with a protective layer, e.g. a dimpled sheet with non-woven fabric and sliding film.

The consumption figures stated are values from practical experience. The layer thickness supplement according to DIN 18533-3 must be considered.
So far, the FPD is not part of the standard. Upon publication, the details given in the factsheet of Deutsche Bauchemie e.V. “Guideline for planning and execution of sealings of underground structures with flexible polymer-modified thick coatings (FPD)” shall apply.

Layer thickness control
According to the current DIN 18533 W1-E and W4-E, a layer thickness control in the fresh state (wet layer thickness) at the execution object as well as an inspection of the thorough drying state at a reference sample located in the construction pit (e.g., a brick) must be performed. For waterproofing according to DIN 18533 W2.1-E and W3-E, the results of these tests must be documented. Storage
BORNIT® Mineral Flex 2C must be stored cool, but frost-free and dry! Thermal impact of over +30°C and direct solar irradiation must be avoided. Storability in originally closed containers 12 months.

Disposal note
Only recycle completely empty containers. Material residues may be disposed of according to AVV-ASN: 080410 (adhesive and sealing compound waste except for those falling under 080409), powder component according to AVV-ASN: 170101 (concrete).
