Areas of application
BORNIT® KTW protects concrete, masonry, plasters, wood and metals from penetrating moisture and aggressive liquids. The coat is resistant to heat.
BORNIT® KTW is an acid-proof, well covering protective coating against aggressive wastewater as well as numerous chemical substances, like alkalis, organic acids and salts.
BORNIT® KTW is applied in industrial silos. In liquid manure, slurry and silage effluent plants as well as biogas storage and filling plants, should be used BORNIT® Siloflex.
For better adhesion to concrete, masonry or plaster, use BORNIT® Bitumen Primer for priming.

Type and properties
BORNIT® KTW is a cold workable, spreadable and sprayable protective coating based on bitumen, solvent and special additives.
After thorough drying, BORNIT® KTW forms a water-impermeable, closed bitumen layer with good adhesion on the substrate, high plasticity and high thermal resistance.

Advantages
  • good adhesion to the substrate
  • easiest handling, since manufactured ready for use
  • universally applicable, therefore numerous uses
  • economical and cost-cutting, due to low equipment and material costs and effort

Surface
The substrate must be stable, dry, clean, free from grease and free from separating substances.
Fresh concrete must have hardened for min. 28 days. Deposits, like concrete grout or chalking, must be removed with suitable measures, as e.g. sandblasting.
During the construction phase, no water must penetrate between substrate and coating.
Loose particles must be removed and defects repaired. Mineral and untreated substrates must be primed with BORNIT® Bitumen Primer (approx. 0.2 l/m²).

Processing
BORNIT® KTW is ready for use without warming, dilution or stirring up. For first-time coating or highly exposed surfaces, at least 2 topcoats are required. Upon application of several coats, let every layer dry thoroughly, the drying time depends on the weather. The processing temperature (ambient and substrate temperature) should not be below +5 °C and not above +35 °C. The final resilience is only achieved after complete and thorough drying (complete evaporation of the solvent), e.g. upon use in stables after approx. 5 days. Prior to putting objects into operation, e.g. in the connection area of pipes, these must be thoroughly flushed after thorough drying of the coats.
Only use in well-ventilated outdoor areas and observe the current version of the Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS).

Notes
BORNIT® KTW is not a coating according to DIN 11622 and according to the Ordinance on Installations for Handling Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV Appendix 7).

Consumption
approx. 0.4 l/m² per coat, depending on the substrate condition (at least 2 coats)
